The Farmers’ Cabins: A gift that keeps on giving

Jamie’s Farm acts as a catalyst for change; enabling children across England and Wales, at risk of social and academic exclusion, to be better equipped to thrive academically, socially and emotionally during their school years and beyond. Through the education programme and activities provided by Jamie’s Farm, many opportunities are available which benefit young people by relieving their poor mental health, improving their mental health and/or preventing the deterioration of those seen to be at risk. They have now worked with over 13,000 children across our sites and demonstrate meaningful and statistically significant outcomes for their mental well-being, engagement with education, behaviour, relationships and social and emotional skills. These correlate positively with educational attainment, employment and workplace success.

They are delighted to have worked with 2,255 children during the most recently concluded school year (22/23) – more than their target and more than ever before. Since establishing nearly fifteen years ago, they have established themselves as a leading charity in the sector and have strong leadership and management, are well governed, with secure finances and an excellent track record.

They have a highly skilled and experienced staff team, including our Co-CEOs Jamie Feilden (Co-Founder) and Jake Curtis, Co-Founder and Director of Therapeutic Education, Tish Feilden (Exec Team), in addition to our Board, including Chair Sarah Brennan, ex-CEO of Young Minds. They are ambitious, having grown significantly since our inception, and are currently facing another period of growth having just purchased their sixth residential farm, near Bath, ready to open in October 24.

Through the activities and education programme provided by Jamie’s Farm, it is acknowledged that many opportunities are available which benefit young people by relieving their poor mental health, improving their mental health and/or preventing the deterioration of those seen to be at risk.

In addition, Roderick James (architect of the cabins) has offered his sincere gratitude to Lindy and our team of trustees with the statement below:
I can’t tell you how thrilled and excited we all are to have such generous support. It gives us the chance to really carry this pilot project through in the best possible way and to investigate how best we might also be able to incorporate the children in the whole process. I’m so pleased you enjoyed The Captain’s Cabin and I anticipate that The Farmer’s Cabin will be every bit as intriguing. We would be delighted to dedicate it to Sarah-Jane Leigh (in the frontispiece) together with information about her, with all profits going to Jamie’s Farm.

Last but not least, SJLCT also granted Jamie’s Farm with support of their 6 week “Transformative Programme” at Waterloo for 8 people for the development of Waterloo Jamie’s farm. On a small strip of land between Waterloo Station and St Thomas’ Hospital you can find their London site – Oasis Farm Waterloo. Since 2014 Jamie’s Farm and their team have transformed a former wasteland into a thriving and productive half an acre, with the help of young people who have visited our countryside farms and others from the local community.
